Fall Skin Care Tips

By Melissa Chambers, Licensed Esthetician

Now that summer is officially behind you, the damage that the sun caused your skin should be behind you, too. You may not even be aware of the havoc that all of your summer frolicking has had on your skin. Our skin changes with the seasons, so it’s time to get that baby ready with some fall skin care! The most common post-summer skin issues are hyperpigmentation (also known as dark spots), dehydration, and acne. Here are some tips to help tackle your skin drama:

Hyperpigmentation

Dark spots caused by sun exposure…some ways to lighten these spots include: Vitamin C, Hydroquinone, Glycolic acid serums and resurfacing treatments.

Up your water intake! Aim for ½ your body weight in ounces, also try adding in some electrolytes and  potassium to your diet. With dryer weather, be sure to moisturizer daily. Skin Oils are also good for those of us with oily skin.

Acne

Pores can be clogged by the constant sweat and sunscreen—get your skin back to fresh with a detox facial. I know it’s hard to resist, but picking at your skin will only make it worse!

Fall Skin Care Reminders

Just because you have packed up your beach gear, doesn’t mean that you should pack up your SPF! The rays of the sun are still powerful and can penetrate through clouds as well as car windows. Protect your skin! And don’t forget that you still need that vitamin D—otherwise known as the “happy hormone”. As Vitamin D is made in the skin, a topical serum used daily will help your skin to make its own.
