Imagine a hectic morning, getting the kids ready for school and yourself ready for work. You rush out the door to spend the next 10 hours either fighting traffic, in back to back meetings, phone calls or computer work… you eat lunch at your desk because you have too much work to get done before you can leave for the day. Around 3 pm you remember you made a commitment to practice self-care and you are scheduled for a massage at 6 pm. You barely make it out if work on time, showing up the spa at 5:57, just enough time to rush inside. The Spa greeter tries to confirm your service with you but you are running late, distracted and only half listening. It’s a 50-minute service, the first 25 minutes of which you are replaying your day in your head. Did I pack enough vegetables in my kid’s lunch box? Did I get my point across in my meeting? Did I ever respond to my boss’s email? Finally, your brain slows down and you are able to relax…. Next thing you know the message is over. Time to get back to your busy life. Sure, the massage was nice, the second half was really great once you were able to convince your brain to focus on the message, but how did 50 minutes go by so quickly?

Let’s try this again. Back up a few hours, arrive at the spa about 45 minutes early instead. Take your time confirming your service and making sure it’s exactly what you need at that time. Take a warm shower in the Spa locker room and change into their ridiculously soft robe before you make your way to the relaxation lounge. Enjoy some hot tea in an oversized lounge chair and dive into that book you keep wanting to read but never have time for. Spend the next 30 minutes letting your brain shut down, your shoulders relax and your feet up. When your massage therapist picks you up from the relaxation lounge all the stress from your day is already gone and you get the next 50 minutes to let your body and mind shut off completely. You needed this. You deserve this. When your massage is over you head back to the relaxation lounge, enjoy some fresh flavored water, cuddle up under one of the blankets and soak up the feeling of pure relaxation. Ahhhh.

I always tell our guests, the point of a spa service is to be relaxed from start to finish. Take that extra time for yourself, even a few minutes in a relaxation lounge will help you get to that relaxed state quicker and I guarantee it I’ll help you enjoy your service more.

Practice self-care with us. You deserve it!
